Exclamation Network Speed Division

I was wondering if there was a way to divide up network speed?

I have 2 comps and a wireless mac that are all on the same router using a dsl connection : (

My mom uses the laptop going to youtube and graphic heavy sites that lag me while Im in game. My brother on the other end downloads movies and games and all the such as well. I was wondering if i could divide up the connection so that I get all i need to play my games w/o lag but still allowing them to do what they do, I am currently using a D-Link 802.11g airplus xtreme g wireless router DI-624

all help is very... helpful

I'm not sure, but maybe what you need is a hub.

A hub would not help at all. If anything you could try setting up QOS if that router supports it. That would allow you to setup amounts of bandwidth for some services or apps's so in a way it would do what you want. However to really do what you are talking about you would need a real router like an Enterprise router.

As BadWayz said you would need a QoS function in the router. I dont think the DI-624 does this.

Do you mean software on your pc which would guarantee a certain amount of bandwidth? If so, this wouldn't work because your pc can only recieve whatever is available from the router.

The only thing I can think of which might not even be possable, is some sort of bandwidth limit/cap program on your mum's pc. Dont even know if that sort of thing exists though.

P.S who pays for the internet? You or your mum?

Well the best way (as you dont have the Bandwidth QoS in the router) is to ask her nicely to get off the pc while you are gaming, or tell her "oi! get of the bloody pc!!!!"

Which ever one works best.
