to update Mandrake you use urpmi
to setup urpmi with the correct source for your version goto: http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ or google: easy urpmi follow the instructions to setup the 3 sources main update contrib then you simply: # urpmi package and it starts the download and install for you. I got the above instructions from here

The bootup message should tell you if you have the Community of Official version. (not positive, though)
The architecture is the type of processor you're using. x86 (i386, i486, i585, i686) = most intel/amd 32-bit processors, x64 = 64-bit processors, sparc = sun sparc processors, ppc = power pc processor (the pre-instel macs) and so on.
