Need help with Wireless!!!
Hey,
I recently installed Fedora Core 4 on my system (I have the FC5_DVD.iso but the disc I burnt won't work at all... Any help on that would also be appreciated) but found myself unable to connect to the Wireless Network we have set up in my home. I'm no techno-geek; I dabble in programming languages and HTML etc, but I couldn't tell the difference between DSL and standard Broadband or whatever... I'm not good with this kinda thing. I opened the Network centre on Fedora, and went to install new device. It gives me a list of Wireless cards, but there's no option for my card (a Belkin Wireless G Network Card). I'm now on my parents Window's running desktop, as my laptop is now offline. Help getting the thing online would be most appreciated! =) |

I am far from being an expert with installing wireless in linux. I have been lucky so far. You may have to use a windows driver to get your wireless going by using ndiswrapper. Someone else will have to help you with your distro.

Just been googling abit and it looks like other people have had some trouble with that card.
I would try the ndiswrapper route as renegade suggested. http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/ |

Hi if you do decide to take the ndiswrapper route.
open a terminal become route. type "yum -y install ndiswrapper" without the " marks. This will install ndiswrapper for you. You then need the windows driver for your wireless card so go to belkins website and download them. Then you will need to unpack the driver you just downloaded to do this you can open a terminal cd to where the window drivers are that you downloaded that means "cd packagename" package name being the name of the driver. Then type in to your terminal "unzip packagename" then type "ls"you will see a directory has been created with the name of the driver you just unzipped.now type "cd directory" directory being the name of the new directorty that has been created. And look for a file that ends ".inf" now type ndiswrapper -i filename. hopefully you will get some feedback.now type "ndiswrapper -l"hopefully this will say something like driver installed. Now type "modprobe ndiswrapper" Now type "dhclient wlan0". If you get this far or need any assistance im sure myself or somebody will be about to help. |
