see this (http://www.iopus.com/guides/oe-backup.htm)
you may want to consider keeping your emails online. Personally, I got tired of backing up, losing, moving, etc and decided to let one webmail account gather all of my emails from other accounts and store them for me. I still use thunderbird to download my new emails, but a copy is always kept on the server available for later use - if needed.

I have a similar problem and find that the .dbx clashes with my Autocad files which won't allow me to read them!!
Again, any tips welcome.

Those .dbx files will only open in Outlook Express. If you want to view the contents, you'll have to do it through Outlook Express.
If you put the inbox.dbx, sent items.dbx and any others that contain messages you want to keep on a CD, you can then use Outlook Express' File>Import>Messages to import them into the other computer's Outlook Express.

Thanks! That did the trick, once I ensured that OE was identified as the program to use to open/read the files.

Incidentally I used a memory stick and not a cd!
