Lately my westell 327w router and modem in one is really slow for wireless online but normal speed for wired connection.

Try changing the chanel. It maybe conflicting with something.

Yea, I have the same stupid gateway. Changing the channel helped somewhat.

What was your old channel and what is the new one? The fearther away from the old one is your best bet if you do have something conflicting. (More buffer room betwen the to). Another trick is to reset the modem back to factory defaults.
Also, make sure that you are getting good reception with low RF noise. Poor reception and\or moderate RF noise can cause an slow connection. I have had to do RMAs when I worked @ VerizonDSL because the RF IC would overheat and die. So see if the unit is hot, if it is. I would call my ISP demanding a new one because of it beeing hot. (Just say that it is to hot to touch, they should RMA it).

P.S. I'd personally would flush your DNS cache to see if that helps any. (Both the PC and the modem). But since you said that it works fine though the Cat5 cable, I dought any gains. But you never know.
