windows me keeps on hanging and shutting down showing a totally black screen.
In my search for a solution to my problem I downloaded pc doctor on call 2 which diagnosed that there were 114 problems on my sixweek old athlon 1800 with windows me. I printed off the list of problems identified and all were about "Missed file HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES..............Invalid data...........
I do not understand what this means. I would be grateful for your help. Thanks. Regards. pking4 |

The vendor of the machine came over from the UK and sold a number of these machines to British expats living in Spain. He said that he had plans to set up an ongoing service agency here in Spain - but for whatever reason it is not to be. He has returned to the UK and disappeared leaving a number of "mugs" here in Spain with computers ,which, when they go wrong will be difficult to find people to fix. There are Spanish computer shops but as most of us brits do not speak spanish, it can be difficult. I am hoping that with your help I will be able to get the thing working properly.
When the screen goes black- it goes totally black. Are you aware of this "doctor on call 2"? Do you know what his credentials are? I cannot understand how all these invalid entries have arisen-114 of them. I have installed spybot search on the system and I have used this to get rid of "the bugs"; I have also installed Jv16 which I have used to clean the registry and get rid of broken shortcuts. I have also removed a number of the start up`programs. Please advise. Regards. pking4 |

Hi pking4 - this is a toughie. It could be software or hardware related. I ran a search on the microsoft site and there were a number of different causes - here is one, Windows Stops Responding During Shutdown When You Are Using a NetGear USB Network Adapter
Presumably, your PC was working ok when you first got it. If so, why not try a System Restore to a date when everything was fine. Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore and choose Restore My Computer to an earlier time. Let us know how you get on. BTW - I have never heard of "doctor on call 2".

Here is the site for Doctor on Call --
http://www.pcdocrx.net/cgi-bin/view.cgi/manager/index.html It seems they charge for their services... this fellow who skipped out wasn't a sales agent for them ?? Being of suspicious nature, I suspect he may have sold you a bundle of problems for his Doctor to collect for fixing... |
