A clear explanation of the problem you are having: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: renewing your IP adress"
What doesn't work: cannot get second computer a internet connection (host computer is fine and well connected)
What does works: the internet on the host computer, router, cards on both computers show that a signal is being sent, the green light is flashing on the host& client computer, as well as the router.
What you've tried: pulled out everything from the plug and tried to connect again
A description of your network: DSL

Whether you have a router, and if you do then what model it is: Linksys Model BEFSR41-CA ver.2
Do you have multiple PCs networked: yes, two.
Is it wireless or not: wired not wireless
Are you using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS): yes.. attempting to share the internet between the two computers
The OS(s) you are using

Windows XP Professional (host computer)
Windows XP home edition (client computer)

Can anyone tell me a solution to renew the IP adress? Previously we had cable and the two computers worked fine.. a few days ago we moved to a new area where the cable internet is not available and now we have ADSL and a different service provider. I don't think this is the problem and I don't understand why the computer cannot obtain the IP adress. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm pretty sure that with ICS that one computer must have a static ip to work. That would explain the reason that it couldn't be renewed. You can plug each computer into the router seperately.

Why are you using a router and ICS? Is one PC connected to the DSL modem and the router sitting between the 2 PCs?

I'm sorry im not actually sure if I have a ICS.. I just assumed. I know that I have one pc connected to the DSL modem and connected into the router. The two computers are connected as well.

So you have the following?

Modem connected to PC1
PC1 connected to the router
PC2 & PC3 connected to the router

Is there a reason you don't have the router connected to the modem?
