There's not really any "high-end" earbuds around, because there's not a whole lot of quality you can get out of a speaker of that size/type. A pair of Panasonic or Sony phones or whatever for about USD$30 should be all you need. Look for something with dynamic bass boost or similar.

There indeed is a high end earbud. Folks in the know say that you can find the "best" earbuds HERE (http://www.shure.com/PersonalAudio/Products/Earphones/ESeries/us_pa_E2c_content) However if your budget can't deal with that I own some of THESE (http://www.amazon.com/JVC-HAF120A-Gumy-Headphone-Blue/dp/B0009VE21I) for the price and comfort Gummy buds by JVC are darn good.

And, of course, you can't go wrong with Sennheiser (http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/productdetail.asp?transid=500830).

I've listened to the "high-end" ear buds before. It's all audiophile placebo. They sound no different to mid-range ones. Headsets, definitely, there's a huge difference in quality. But earbuds? Nothing.

I'm sorry for your hearing loss, oracle128.
There's an audible difference.

edit:would the sennheiser mx550 be decent for sound quality? http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=14714&vpn=MX550&manufacture=Sennheiser%20Electronics

With Sennheiser, you pretty much can't go wrong. Plus, that pair is "Cool metallic blue" :)

You'll be needing this (http://www.belt.demon.co.uk/product/qrfqc/qrfqc.html) then. And don't forget the Monster (http://www.monstercable.com/home_av/) cables!
From someone who knows (http://www.dansdata.com/danletters118.htm).
