satellite is not better than dsl. You cannot play online games, do any streaming and such effectively, also you are punished if you do alot of downloading.

You cannot get internet during bad weather and it has a very high startup cost.

Hugesnet formally Direcway isn't as fast as dsl or cable. Even using tools like drtcp its still not as fast. Whats more if there is bad weather like rain or its hugely cloudy outdoors you will lose connection until the weather gets better. There is also FAP or "Fair Access Policy" they use once you download or use X amount of bandwidth they either slow your speeds down or even turn your connection off for a while. As for the price you can get it for cheaper from a 2nd party dealer like Earthlink but its still around 50 bucks a month but if you go direct with Hughesnet the monthly service is 60 to 70 depending on what package you order plus 300 bucks for the dish, the box that attach es to your computer, and to have all of it installed "they won't let you install it yourself". All in all IMO satellite internet is for those with no other choice than dialup. If you have access to dsl or cable go with one of them. If your dsl is slow have the ISP run a line check to see if maybe there can be something in the line thats causing it to be slow. Also if they offer different packages you might want to try a faster package.
