Hi folks,
I'm looking for a solution for the following situation..

The desktop is in one room with wireless speedstream modem attached.
Laptop connects to the network and works great in the same room and in close proximity, but in another adjoining area the strength is very weak and the network connection collapses quite a bit.

Can I move the modem closer to the second area and run a long ethernet cable back to the desktop, without causing problems? Is there a limit to length of cable? Any other issues I need to know?

Or is there another solution that suggests itself?

Open to ideas/suggestions.
thanks
Riva

You can run a long bit of cat5 if you want. I have run lenths of 100ft maybe more with no problems. You could also check into maybe placing a wireless range expander at some point between the modem/router and the other computers or areas in the house. Also if you can try to put the modem/router up as high as you can get it. If there are alot of other wireless networks in the area try changing the wireless channle on the router to either 1 or 11.
