Monitor not responding..?

Here's my problem; After exiting a game (any game) my whole screen stays black. Although my desktop is still there and operational, I can't see anything but my mouse (I know this because I can see my mouse cursor change when it is supposed to, ex. at a ledge of a window.)
I hypothesised that it might be my drivers, but that wouldn't make quite a lot of sense? Your thought?

Note: To solve this problem, I have to log off and log back on to, more or less, refresh my monitor.

what operating system? what video card. Verify that you have the latest driver - check either the computers manufacturer or video card manufacturer

Windows XP Pro. SP2
Manufactuer: Well... I built my machine
Vid. Card: GeForce 6600TD Silencer (No fan, just a really, really, big heatsink)

I'm downloading the latest Nvidia drivers right now, hope this solves the problem.
