On boot up I've noticed error messages in the system event log w/ source "atapi" event 9 (4x's) and then event 11. When I right click for properties on the event 9 it reads:The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period. The event 11 reads:The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0.

Also when I re-boot I've noticed in the application event log an error message w/ Userenv, event 1000. The property message reads: Windows cannot unload your registry file. If you have a roaming profile, your settings are not replicated. Contact your administrator.

DETAIL - Access is denied. , Build number ((2195)).

I tried the Window's Help remedy of of changing the user profile but the local profile option's already checked.

The machine has Maxtor 6L040J2 that's my C: drive and a Maxtor 4K040H2 that's my F: drive that I use mainly for storage. A Sony CD-RW CRX100E and a Sony CD-RomCDU5221.

I've updated to Service Pack 3.

I've been perusing Window's Knowledge Base but so far none of the remedies I've tried seem to work. Could anyone please give me a hint of what's going on?

Hi Martin Sausage - from EventID.net (http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=11&source=)

"Source various devices
Type Error
Description The driver detected a controller error on \Device\<device>
Comments Adrian Grigorof: See the link below. The source could be various device drivers (i.e. aic78xx, adpu160m, sttscsi4, stek9714).

Some contributors considered some of these errors as being caused by faulty SCSI devices attached to the controllers (i.e CD-ROM drives)

When the source is "CdRom" this message usually indicates a problem with the CD (especially custom written ones). Also you can check the cabling on the device named in the message. If the cabling is working satisfactorily and you continue to receive this message, run hardware diagnostics on the device. You might have to contact the vendor of the device for technical support, or you might have to replace the controller. The source of this message can also be various controller installed on the system i.e. aic78xx. In this case the problem can be with the controller itself but most likely with the devices attached to it (like SCSI hardrives or tape drives)."
