I have usually quite savy with networking but this one has me stumped.
I am setting up a wireless network for a friend. I have 1PC and a laptop connected (both through wireless). The PC will browse the internet fine.. the Laptop will not. Laptop: Ping 127.0.0.1 - OK Ping 192.168.2.10 (wireless card) - OK Ping 192.168.2.1 (router) - OK Ping www.google.com - OK NSlookup www.google.com - OK Internet Explorer www.google.com - Unable to open IE 72.14.203.99 (google ip) - unable to open FTP - ftp.netscape.com - Unable to connect nslookup ftp.netscape.com - OK FTP - 207.200.66.55 (netscape.com) - Unable to connect What am I missing?? I have gone though all the internet connections and Network setting that I can think of.. I know it must be something VERY small and simple that I am Missing. Any help whould be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Mike |

I'll move this to the networking fourm as it doesn't appear to be OS related.

Hmmm. Doesn't sound like the router's firewall to me. Possible a software firewall problem. Also, switching from wireless to wired doesn't change whether or not you go through the router's firewall.

the only firewall that is on the laptop is windows firewall and ive never had it block IE requests.
Quote "- 192.168.0.1 normaly is the router IP, why the 2??" quite simply.. its a router/modem in 1. typically the modem local IP and router ip dont like to have the same IP. so I make a habit of changing it. |

Just to make sure, I'd test it without the firewall running.
What does 'tracert www.google.com' show? Also, does 'telnet www.google.com 80' connect? (use control-] then q to quit the telnet session if it does work)

Well I finally got the machine working.. ended up wiping the laptop and installing a fresh version. I have found that after uninstalling NAV (that came preinstalled) the firewall was still installed and there was no araprent way to dissable it. So I nuked it and now all is well..
Thank you all for the awsome help .. Mike |
