Wasn't there a time when you could use OE with Hotmail? Is that still possible?

Was looking for a quick answer since OE isn't installed on my system. Anyway, I downloaded it, tried to add in Hotmail, and it turns out that you can no longer use Hotmail with OE.

Yup, that's what I suspected when it gave me an error and an MSN link to follow. Well, the hell with that:D.

Yes, there was a time. Outlook/Express were able to connect to Hotmail using IMAP protocol. In fact, earlier versions of Outlook/Express included a "Create or use an existing Hotmail account" in the account setup wizard. About a couple years ago, they removed remote access (they want you to view their advertising now), however, if you had been using Hotmail's IMAP for a certain amount of time before that, they allowed you to continue, and still do (I'm able to access one of my two Hotmail accounts with Outlook via IMAP to this day, but not the other, because one was created before the other). If you're not one of those privellaged ones, then yes, you have to pay for a Hotmail Plus account for remote access.
