Can't view a webpage... Sounds dumb, but I need help

Ok, I just recently had a friend install linux [or... at least, Im assuming its linux...] on my laptop because Windows XP wasn't working out so well for me. [When I start it out, it says "Ubuntu", so is that the OS, or is it like... something else? As you can clearly see, Im new at this XD]

Anyway. My predicament has come when I want to go to a website [www.silkroadonline.net] and I get this message:

"Web page of Silkroad Online is optimized under below condition.
Windows Operation Systems ( Microsoft Windows 9X/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 )
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and above."

and cannot view anything else on the page except for this message. What do I need? Its probably some simple java thing or something, but could anyone help me?

[Im looking to download the game so I can play it, if they have the right version]

Any help is greatly appreciated! -Thanks!

It's most likely the web page itself. It's not written for any other operating system or browser other than Windows. That's rare these days, but I suppose it can still happen. The reason for this would be the game does not run under any other operating system. If you could get the game on CD you might try Wine. But I dought that Wine would run it either.

It seems like it is just the website. What browser are you using? In firefox, if you install the 'User Agent Swither' extension and tell the browser to identify itself as Internet Explorer 6 the site works fine. You will probably want to have flash install though because it seems like the site uses it for a lot of things, at least on the main page.

"Ubuntu" is a linux distrubution, meaning the people at Ubuntu take the linux kernel, and package the rest of the Operating System around it. You can find a lot more information on linux distributions at http://www.distrowatch.com .

Ubuntu(pronounced; oo-boon-too) is a very good Linux distro. Here's a link to their home page;
http://www.ubuntu.com/

Check out the Wiki link for a lot of info. There'a also a good forum for new Ubuntu Linux users;
http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=73

Hope this helps. Oh, and welcome to the world of Linux.
