True there are new incorporations such as phishing-checking aboard the new Internet Explorer
and Vista itself has new security options such as popup warnings for any executable that start. Jim Allchin's son surfin' VC-less isn't much of a risk with a router and an updated Windows involved. If the weight of this super safety lay on Windows Defender (the old Giant antivirus) then I would not refer to any of that as ground-breaking or any other type of super-protection. It's just a virus checker in the end and I've already seen Vista Ultimate running Defender and the Defender was bypassed and the Vista was infected. The good thing about Vista security is that Vista is kind of lobbing everything at the system from all directions. There are multiple included programs and program settings to cover all the aspects of getting a good running system to stay that way due to inside or outside influence. I especially like the "System Restore" available on the Vista boot CD menu. When all else fails, it's a beaut'. I had read a recent article on future security needs and the statement was that present day updateable-virus-software is not going to protect us from the way systems are being accessed. Things like "User Account Control" (halts executables until approved) may seem a bit annoying at first but the idea that everything is stopped until "human-approved" is more what we need [involved] for the future. In a perfect World More viruses and spyware could be stopped if everyone on the Internet takes classes on How to operate a computer system and keep it free of exploits (or The Do[s] and Don't[s] of Clicking)

Truth is, his conversation was misconstrued. Here's his response on the Vista blog:
