I was just reading an article about how laptops are overtaking desktops as primary computers so I started wonder what everyone here uses.

Laptop. My desktop is a HTPC and gaming machine, but for everything else (coding, email/IM, web browsing) I use the laptop. Partly because it's portable, partly because my HTPC setup doesn't make it easy to view/write text (distance to the plasma screen).

Desktop(s)
Cost benefit analysis of laptop vs desktop still gets desktop to come out on top IMHO.

If they were the same price I would seriously consider laptops but then there's still the issue of (non)upgradability of laptop hardware.

It's a given that laptops are more expensive, less powerful, not upgradeable, etc, but one needs to consider it's worth it for the portability .

I am very laptop dependent. I like to be mobile. I want to be able to go from room to room and stay connected. I've got two laptops and a PDA to accomplish this. Heh. I use my desktop too, I am right now, but I definately prefer to use my laptop.

Desktops all the way for me.

We have laptops as well but personally I prefer a DT

I will never be a lover of laptops. They may be portable, but I have no need for such things. I get much better mileage out of my tower that I can easily pull parts out of.

I have a desktop but I am looking into getting a Mac sometime in the future.....after looking at the specs and all I might get a Macbook, very similar specs as the iMac I was comparing it too, but for only $100 more I could get the portability of the Macbook (wouldn't be getting it till next year when I'm at PTI, a Macbook would be useful when visiting home)
