webpage sounds disabled but still web sounds play

I've disabled sound in web pages in my browser options but it doesn't seem work. I use the latest version of Opera. But it seems to be the same story with explorer as well. Is there anything that can be done to disable sounds other than the browser sound disabling option that doesn't work? I like to listen to my music when I browse and the sounds in webpages mess it up. Please help me.

Thanks for responding. I do it everytime I close my browser along with cookies. Can it have anything to do with plugins or java or javascript cuz I have them all turned on all the time?

Disabling sound in the browser options won't necessarily disable sound from eg. Java Applets or Flash animations.
