Ping but no connection?
I have a computer running Windows XP home. I am trying to connect to the internet but I keep getting the "can not display the web page" screen I can actually go to the command prompt and type in "ping www.yahoo.com" and I will get a reply from yahoo %100 of the time, so I know I can get to the internet and I can resolve hostnames. I just tried installing internet explorer 7 to see if maybe it was a browser problem, but it's still not working. Any ideas?

No one can help me?
I am surprised that 18 people have looked at my problem but no one has any ideas? I thought this was tech help! You guys are supposed to be the smartest of computer gurus! Or do you just not understand my problem?

Hi
Have you tried using a different browser such as Firefox or Opera? Please be patient. Someone should be able to offer help Cheers Beanie

What do you have for a firewall? Have you checked your proxy settings?

I have bypassed my firewall while I am working on this problem, and I have reset the DSL modem back to it's factory settings.

in internet explorer(have to get to the tools menu for ie 7), go to tool and internet options and select the connections tab. From there click on the lan settings button and make sure automatically detect settings is checked. post back if it didn't work

thx for the update. Glad to hear you're all set.
Just to clear it up for others (and myself), you did a repair install from your XP disk to fix this? Did you try the winsockfix program?

I tried the winsockfix program, and all of the blaster removal tools, hijack this, and about a dozen other things. But I finaly got it to work by repairing the windows XP installation from my windows xp disk.
