Cannot Connect To Secure Sites/System Restore Won't Work

Hey everybody. I'm a brand new user to this forum and I was hoping someone might be able to help me out...

A few months ago, I had problems connecting to secure websites. Every time I log on to pay a bill, IE would give me the "Cannot Display Website" mumbo jumbo. I was instructed to try System Restore. Alas, it completely worked and everything was back to normal.

Well, last week, it started again. I tried System Restore for the second time and it's giving me a message that says "System Restore Incomplete." I'm thinking something is corrupted all of a sudden....?

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Use the guided help here. Post back if you still have a problem. This is for I.E. 6.0.

I followed every step that applied to me on that page and not a single thing worked. I also clicked on the tutorial for how to fix the system if you can't connect to secure sites only (which is my problem). Nothing helped whatsoever.

Here's how to repair I.E. 6.0

Are you 100% sure this isn't being caused by a virus/malware problem that the first MS link I posted suggested as a possible cause of this problem?

I can't be 100% sure, but I have scanned several times. I had a problem with Spy Sheriff a while back, but followed instructions to remove it. I've also done a system restore since then.

Post a HJT log in the Cyber Safety forum for a virus/malware check. If your computer is infected trying to fix it won't work until the infection is removed. Follow this link on how to post a HiJackThis log. There's many variations of Spy Sheriff and using one method my not have removed it.

Do you happen to have a link to the cyber safety forums? I've run Hijack This and saved a log file, but I couldn't find the right forum to post it in.

Saw your HJT log and you do have some issues. Hopefully when the experts in Cyber Safety helps you out the problem should be solved.
Be patient as there quite busy and may take a day or so for a response.

Thanks for taking a peek at my results. Hopefully they can help me out. I'm worried when you say, "you do have some issues." And I can tell they're busy... Lots of logs on that forum!!

Unless you are member of the Cyber Safety staff you can't really comment on the logs per forum rules, so all I can say is issues. Don't worry they'll have you up and running in no time. It's not that bad.
