I've got an older IMB ThinkPad with windows 2000 that my office had stopped using. I was told I could have it since no one knew how to get past the encryption. I took it with the hopes of maybe finding a way to get around it on my own and then giving it to my kids for their use.
As soon as I start this up I get a screen informing me that I'll need to log into it before I can use it. The name of the softward is Encryption Plus ® Hard Disk.
Is there any way at all to get around this so I can format the hard drive and reinstall windows?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

If the software is on the hard drive(sounds like it is),
you should be able to boot to a 2000 or XP CD and
delete the partition when you come to the page to
do so,then use the unpartitioned space to setup
windows.

it is against the rules of this forum to help bypass security since there is no way to verify the information you give. Any help we give you can also be used by those who got their laptop through other than legal means.
You said your office was using the laptop so they should have the info you need to bypass it or uninstall it.

I can appreciate that... With the amount of crooks on the web and walking the streets these days... you can't really trust anyone to tell you the truth.
As for the office... like I said... no one in the office knows the login or knows how to get around it. No one really cared because of the age of it and we're all using newer machines that are much much faster then the 600 - 650 MHz that this is.

Simplest solution, buy a 2nd hand 2.5" hard drive and replace the encrypted drive with a "clean" one.

That thought did cross my mind, but I thought that sounded to simple and I wasn't sure if I had to buy a certain model/type for the laptop. I see plenty of options on ebay for 2.5" hard drives... is there anything specific that I should keep in mind? Do I only look at hard drives that mention IBM?

Any 2.5" ATA drive should be fine. Getting a new (or newer) drive is probably better than trying to format the current one, since it might not be as stable given its age.

Thanks... I think I'll give this method a try if I can find a good deal on a new HD. If not then it'll end up back in a filling cabinet at the office.
Thanks everyone for the help/suggestions.
