I have win me on my pc but i can't get to the dos promt
to format the hard drive.
When i have got there the format command does not seem to
be recognised
My new o/s will be win 98

use your startup disk, you can go to add/remove programs and startup disk tab to create on, then insert it and restart.
Try fdisk from there. Some oem pcs can't be downgraded if they come with me on them as far as i know.
