Internet speed

Are there any programs that are free to download, that boost the internet speed? i currently have dsl but when 2 or more people are on it slows down the internet greatly. i know i can upgrade my at&t service but my dad doesnt want to pay more money for a faster speed. i do not know my current internet speed, it might be something like 300kbps but i dont know what that really means except for kilibites per second. is there a way to find out my internet speed? and is there a program that will boost my internetspeed? if so please tell me, and if its there is a free internet booster trial also tell me, i might be willing to spend to 20-30 dollars on the program.

see this

the reality is, that most really do not work. You may get a little boost but usually not enough to notice, especially if more than one is on a network at the same time.

Just to add something here, use caution when using programs that make unknown changes to the registry. It could actually decrease your Internet performance and undoing the changes made to your registry could be very difficult or impossible. If you use any programs that makes changes to your registry settings be certain you know what they are and how to remove all of them if things don't work out as advertised. Most of these programs are useless and change settings that have no effect on Internet performance.

The only thing that actually will better your performance with the Internet is your RWIN settings. Also your on DSL so your speed is fixed, and governed by how close you are to the remote DSLAM or CO. Here is a site that is known for their expertise with this subject.
