Ok I have two questions. This is for my iMac G4 17" flat panel 800Mhz computer not my PC.

1.) I just bought from memory from a store by me. The specs of the memory match what my computer needs but it was setup for a PC. The "computer tech" at the store said it would work. Well it registers in the computer but when I start it up it says Kicking Anacron. It works sometimes but other times my computer freezes. Should I just take the memory back and get something from online?

2.) I have 10.2.8 and am thinking about upgrading to 10.4. Is it really worth the $130?

The reason I am getting memory is because I still have the stock 256 in the computer and its time. And also I want to get memory and the new OS because the computer just seems to be running slow and its getting to the point where I cant run any new programs because I dont run 10.4.

1) if the specs match and it is seen at times it's either a) not installed properly or b) bad RAM which you should return.

2) Absolutely, but 10.5 is due out shortly (first part of 07), you may want to wait for that.

Did they say a price on 10.5 yet?

and yes the specs match but its meant for a PC I think thats what the difference was.

RAM is generally RAM PC or Mac doesn't matter, just so long as it's the proper type of RAM - a la PC3200 SDDR or PC2-4200 or whatever the specs call for. There's no such thing as PC-only or Mac-only RAM, there are just different RAM modules.

Prices for OS updates are generally about the same so I'd expect $130 ± for OS 10.5 (Leopard) as well.

ok well it must be bad RAM then because its just freezing up the comp when I have it in. I ran the hardware tester and an error came up when it got to the memory part.

Yup sounds like just a bad stick of RAM. You should first try returning it for an exchange. Bad sticks can happen from time to time. If it happens again, I'd get a refund and find another retailer.

I took it back today and got it cheaper online anyway. Thanks for the help!

the reason I thought it was just for PC was because it said PC ready on it and there were some packages that said mac ready also.

Oh and I checked out the preview for the new 10.5 and it looks pretty cool. Thanks for the heads up. One question though. Am I able to run 2 computers off of the OS if I buy it or would I have to get the family pack thing wich is usually pretty expensive?

The reason I ask is because me and my dad were going to split the cost and run it on both of our computers.
