Last night I accidently deleted some windows system files. When I restarted my computer the system goes to the DOS prompt and states "Cannot Find System.ini". It then prompts me to boot with emergency boot disk and typ "scanreg/restore".

I did not make an emergency boot disk. Am I SOL?? I hope not, would appreciate any advice. I did download the generic boot disk file for Windows Me from Bootdisk.com. Will this work and how do I install? Thanks

Put a formatted floppy in the drive, then double-click on the generic Windows ME bootdisk file that you d/loaded in order to create the startup floppy disk.

Boot from the startup floppy disk, and when you get to the A: prompt, key in:
SCANREG /RESTORE

If you get an error message that scanreg.exe cannot be found, then key this in at the A: prompt:
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\SCANREG /RESTORE

You should then get a list of the five most current "good" registry backups.....choose the the most current one that predates the "problem".
