Hi,
I am trying to back up files on my 486,
Windows 3.1, before I go to windows 95.
When I go to backup to retrieve a catalog
from the a disc, I get the message,
"STOP THE VIRTUAL DMA BUFFER IS IN USE".
What does it mean? How do I get rid of the
problem?
And another thing. When I first go into
ms-backup, I am told that the following
is missing from my SYSTEM INI. file.
[386nh]
"DEVICE=[ms-dos path] VFINTD.386"
I tried to insert it via "notepad" but
was unsucessful. Should I just erase everything and re-install windows?
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you all.
Eric

Hi there,

It's been a very long time since I used win3.1, so I'm going to give you another way you can "backup" your data.

You can just copy it to a new directory (folder) on the hard drive. That is if you are not going to format it. It will be safe there. But if you are going to format, you will need to either copy it to a different partition on the hard drive or copy all of the data to floppy disks. Windows never did do a decent job of providing a backup program within the windows system.
