my brain has crashed for today, so here is a stupid question. In Windows 98, you can run the msconfig command where you can view the config and startup files and other info. Where is the equivelant of that in Win2000?
this is probably a stupid question, but a question none-the-less.
thanks for the help!

Although not the same, you can get similar information through the Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management.
Here, you can access similar tools to that available in the msconfig available in Windows 98. The main difference though is that each architecture is different. Windows 98 is legacy in that DOS is still there, whereas 2K in pure 32bit. There is no win.ini, system.ini, autoexec.bat or config.sys to speak of. Therefore, the tools are different and the method you access them is as well.
What exactly are you trying to perform exactly anyway?

Thanks Damhna, I checked what you suggested but could not find what I am looking for.
PostCode, what I am looking for is where a program is starting that should not be starting. When this pc reboots, it starts a program and opens a window with Update in the heading, but nothing in the window itself. I uninstalled all programs that should not be on the system, like a couple adwares and so forth, but when I reboot this update window still appears, and if I do a crtl-Alt-Del, it is running as an application.
I thought maybe it might be a virus, so i ran a scan an there was a virus on the system, and Norton quarentined and took care of the virus, and when i re-scanned, no virus came up, even after I thought one would because maybe the Update program was connected to the virus.
Anyway, I still cannot find where this might be starting even after trying Damhna's suggestions.
Thanks for the help.
