I will move this post to the Windows 98 forum here at CTH. It will likely get the attention of the folks there that will be able to help you with 98 problems.

The error message you're getting is usually due to some application updating MSIMG32.DLL with a version of the DLL distributed with Windows 2000 or later. The correct version number of the DLL is: 5.00.1693.1 It can be obtained from the Windows 98SE installation CD using System File Checker. The INCORRECT version is 5.00.2180.0 -- this version is only distributed with Windows 2000 or later.

If System File Checker (SFC) doesn't find the problem on its own, you can tell it to extract one file from either the Win98 CD or from the C:\Windows\Options\Cabs folder (if present).

To do that, start System File Checker (or go to Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Information>Tools>System File Checker).

Tell it to find msimg32.dll and to look either on the Win98 CD or in the Cabs folder. Tell it to save the extracted file to C:\Windows\System.

START | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL

Double click on ADD/REMOVE programs

Left Pane click on WINDOWS

Check the accessory box to install what you want.
