It's me again. Evidently when I lost my fonts, I lost something in the start, run area. I tried to install a game that I have used before. When it didn't start automatically, I hit start, run, and typed in e:\setup like the instructions said. A screen popped up that said make sure path name is correct also libraries are in place. I was able to find the program in my files and install it. Any ideas on this one?
Thanks, John

So I'm not sure what the problem is since you said you installed it. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/confused.gif

I take it E is your CD-Rom?
Was the game CD inserted in the Cd-Rom drive before you attempted to run setup?
The error message you describe means Windows could not find the path to the .exe you specified (in other words there was no "setup.exe" in the folder "E:\".

Yes, the cd was in and yes, e is my cdrom. The problem is I have always been able to install from cd with start, run e:\setup or setup exe, not having to go to explorer and search for the set up file to install something. I'm just not sure why this is happening. Maybe I lost a dll. You think?
Thanks, John

Ok I see what your saying now. Is that the only one that does it? Some of mine I have to hunt the exe file for and some will autorun.

I'm not sure if that's the only one that does it. A friend loaned as a floppy with some educational stuff on it and it did the same thing, but when I found it in my files, there was no set up with it. There have been a couple of times when I need to use start, run, etc. and I got the same message. Maybe I shouldn't worry about it, but I don't know why it used to work but does'nt anymore.
Thanks, John

Can you try to run other .exe files from Start/Run (applications allready on your hard drive) so we can narrow down whther this is a Hardware (drive) issue or a Windows "run" issue.

Everything else seems to work just fine. Other cd-roms, other files etc.
Thanks, John

If it's just this one game CD-Rom I'd have to suggest that the CD itself has been damaged - can you see any scratches on the data surface?

I don't see any big scratches, but I tend to agree with you about it being that cd. All others seem to work fine. I guess we can bring this topic to a close.
Thanks and I'll see you with my next problem,
John
