My hard drive is 80 GB split into 6 partitions. the C:\ drive is a little small for my liking it is 1.5 GB
When I reinstalled windows recently I had about IIRC 1GB - 1.1 GB remaining. I have not added many programs to C: but one I did add was Office 97 which took up about 100 - 200MB.
All the time my C: is getting smaller and smaller without apparantly adding any more programs to it, I am currently left with 200MB - 290MB remaining and Windows is starting to have trouble with drivespace. I do regularly delete all the contents of
\temporary internet
\cookies
\history
\applog
\temp
\recent
*Do you know what is eating up my C:?
*If I want to alter the partition sizes will all data on all partitions have to be lost?
*How do I alter the partitions?

As to what's using space on the C partition, it's probably System Restore. It keeps its data in the System Volume Information folder. You can adjust the amount of space System Restore is allocated in Control Panel>System>System Restore tab.
To alter the partitions without losing data, you will need to purchase partitioning software. Acronis True Image (http://www.acronis.com/) gets good reviews from its users.
Edit: Oops, sorry....thought I was in the XP forum (again)

Miz - System Restore is not part of 98. Only for ME and XP

The space is slowly eaten away. For example a week or two ago it would have been 300 - 400MB
before that 600 - 700 MB
If it is "system restore" (assuming I have it) does it grow like that over time?

I know its been a couple of days, still have the problem?
Windows is starting to have trouble with drivespace. Do you know if the drive is compressed???

No I don't know if it is compressed.
But although I try to avoid loading things onto C: I think it is because programs slowly install themselves there.
I am going to wipe my C: drive again and re install windows. I have office 97 CD Rom which insists on installing in C: no option given, is there any way I can make it install somewhere else?
I just realised I can't re install windows until I have finalised a program which is running elsewhere, because it will have to be re-installed (along with everything else) but this particular programme is busy at the moment so I will have to make it finish. which will take a few days.

Should not eat that much of the drive up, but go into control panel and click on "Fast Find" it is part of Office 97..Turn it off..What it does is run in the background and indexes files, a worthless program.

Hi,
I think I turned off find fast...selected close and stop and I deleted all the indexes, but there was nothing in them.
I'm now a little more concerned about this hard drive stuff, when I wrote the above I had just deleted yahoo messenger and some other programs from C: and my space went up to 500MB and I thought it would be ok.
But now I'm back down to 300MB I just don't know where it's all going. My windows swap file is 96MB
Additional update: I just searched C: for all files over 1MB I found C:\windows\internet logs. It only said it was 56MB in total for all files there. I deleted all the files I could , left the ones which looked important. I went back now to see my space and it was 476MB, The problem is I didn't check the space before I went to look at and delete internet logs. So I dunno if it was 56 MB or if it more of an effect.
I'll have to wait now and see what happens next time I'm full up.
