did you try doing a dual boot?
if not, submit a hijack log in the relevant forum, as this does sound suspect

hi
do another over the top, this time, without the typo.
This should work.

It would be best to format the drive and start from scratch.

renegade, I would agree, but...
as there "might" be a possibility there is data they want to preserve, a temporary working solution is good enough to make some data backup possible.
an new OverTheTop could do that.
this would enable the user to save adress book and what not.
after this, yes, I would not mind to wipe (quickformat) the thing and do a clean.

I go by what was mentioned not what might be. its usually a given that anything important would be saved if doing a complete wipe. Instead of trying to boost your ego by criticizing what I said, you could have posted something like to be sure to save any files that you cannot afford to lose. Or another option is to...
An over the top will not eliminate the other windows if there are several installed which is what this individual is wanting to get rid of.
Normally I will not mention a complete install because in most cases its not necessary. In this case, I believe it would be best. So IMO, my suggest is a valid one whether you agree or not. Its up to the one who is looking for help to decide which route to take and there are many options. Mine is just one.

Hi
that's right.
at least, now, the options were discussed.

Ah, but it is not a given that anything importatn would be saved if doing a complete wipe. There have been posts on this board asking how to recover data after formatting a drive. There have been posts asking if everything will be gone if a drive is formatted. There have been posts asking how to back up data and even what data should be backed up.
The original poster gave no indication that a clean install is what was wanted. There is every indication that repairing the Windows installation without losing any data was wanted.
