As the title suggests, this problem has to do with the OS of my computer.
I have/had a V2 premier that I bought years ago, haven't had any problems with it at all, the entire time I had it. Then recently the power supply hardware inside the computer blew up, literally. So after replacing a few parts I finally got the computer to turn on. Instead of seeing the windows 98 SE startup, All I see on the screen are these four little words,

" Operating system not detected_ "

So, after much frustration, I've decided to buy/build a new computer. But I would very much like to recover the data from my old hard drive.

So my questions are:

Can I recover the data from my old hard drive? If so how?

I've looked online and found some info on data recovery but I just don't know what to use or how to use it.

If the data from the old hard drive is lost can I still use the old hard drive as a slave drive for my new computer? If so how?

Even though the old hard drive is out dated I would still like to make some use of it.

Thank you for your help.

you should be able to put yor own hdd as a slave in your new pc and access the data that way. unless the drive has been formatted, you'll have to get some recovery programs for it.

To slave your old drive to the new computer, check the jumpers on the back of the new drive. If your new drive is setup to Cable Select, make your old drive that way also, with the jumper. If set to Master on the new drive, set the old drive as slave using the supplied jumper. You will be able to read the files on the old drive as long as the blown up power supply didn't kill your drive. And yes, as a long as the drive is readable in your new computer, you can still use it as a storage drive.

also just in case if your old drive has no sticker on top to show master slave set up as long as you know the manufacturer you might be able to get a pdf with details on jumpers etc

If the drive is okay, and you can see files on it after you connect to the new computer, you probably won't need recovery software. If it doesn't read the harddrive or files, a few programs that I use are also free include Restoration and PCInspector. Links are below:
