Dark Side of the Moon
What a way to round off a great evening - just come in from the street dinner and dance, and the good old BBC are showing the 1994 live performance at Earls Court of the Dark Side of tthe Moon.

I had FREE (yes free) tickets to this gig and was supposed to go with my boss, his boss and the big dudes wife. So what happened? I was stuck in West Warwick, Rhode Island working on an overrunning project! Arrrgggghhhhhh
I used to live about 17 miles from Earls Court, and I would've been picked up and dropped off in a chaffeur driven executive saloon. My 2-i-c Damo went instead - the jammy git Actually, Damo is a top bloke and thoroughly deserved to go.

Caught it on telly last night. Absoutely bloody awesome!! You couldn't imagine they could reproduce live such a complex album.. but they did.. perfectly!! The light show was also awesome.

I remember reading many years ago that Gilmour liked to try lots of new and inovative things in the recording studio, but would never use anything that he couldn't reproduce live onstage. And boy it comes through in this DVD. There are a lot of "classic" groups going out on tour these days and charging outrageous ticket prices, this is one I would pay big bucks for and gladly do it. |

hiya errolo, where've you been hiding?
Thats an interesting fact - never thought of it before, but now you mention it they do and can reproduce all the atmosphere and unusual sounds in thier live shows. Usually, a live performance that reproduces the album version sounds sterile (as I witnessed from R.E.M. at the Milton Keynes Bowl circa 1993) but this is definitely not the case with the Floyd.

Been pretty busy as of late, been lurking a bit as always.
The only other concert I can remember (most are just fuzzy) that was highly technical, but accurately performed live was by YES, back in the early seventies. |

Which Yes album were they promoting at the time, Errolo?
The first chance I ever had to see Yes, was when they were promoting their "Going For The One" album, and I saw them in Birmingham. The performance of Awaken was AWESOME!! I regret never having the chance to see live, any performance of "The Gates Of Delirium", thankfully I do have a version of that on a DVD, that song of theirs was the one that got me into loving their music so much.

Let me see if I can awaken some long dormant braincells and try to remember. I'm thinking it was either Fragile or Closer to the Edge, but they were still playing lots from The Yes Album. The concert was billed as the "first truly stereo" sound at a live performance. Don't know if this was true or not, but the sound was incredible. Rick Wakeman dressed up as some Merlin like wizard, his keyboard setup taking up about a third of the stage. There were large speakers set up entirely around the hall, sounds comming from everywhere. One of those concerts that make an impression on you that stays with you forever. I've been to lots and lots of concerts, only a few made this kind of impression. |
