My friend has an HP Pavilion 6535. He recently aquired it from his parents, and since we customize all of our computers we wanted to reformat the hard drive so we could have it from scratch. The only problem is, when we ran F-diak and wiped the hard drive an error just popps up sayig that there is no operating system. Which is no suprise. We were not able to format the drive after the F-Disk. The weird thing is we had a windows 98 boot up disk in the drive, but for some reason the computer wouldnt read it. We need to figure out how to format the dirve so we can install windows. Any help would be greatly apprecitated. Thanks.

when you fdisk the drive, did you "recreate" a new one and set it as active?

if the boot disk is cd, did you place cd drivers on it so the cd can be read?

The boot disk is a floppy. We set the computer to boot the floppy first and it doesnt do anything.

Some windows 98 CD's are bootable.
Try setting the first boot device to CD and
run from the 98 CD.

Ya, we tried that and it didn't work. We thought there was something about the HP pavilion that we have where the OS is on the mother board or soemthing. We dont quite understand it, but his dad said something like that. we created the boot disk by downloading a progam for windows 98se at bootdisks.com. I thought perhaps i didnt download one that had CD support. Would any of you happen to know where i could find a Windows 98 second edition boot disk creater program?

Put the boot floppy into another computer and take a look at its contents. See if it has "format" on it. If not, you'll need to make another boot floppy with the necessary files.
You can make one on any working Windows 98 system in Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>Startup Disk tab.

It has all of the right files on it. It even works on other computers, it just doesn't work with the one we need it to. iNfact i just used it to install windows on another computer, so i know for sure that it works fine.

Would it be possible to do this with just the CD? I cant find anymore floppies around my house. The last one i had just became corrupted after putting into a floppy drive that i think may be dead or dying.
