I have a 20" iMac Flat Panel computer with a 80 gb hard drive. The warranty is just about up and I wish to replace/upgrade the hard drive. I want to find a 300 - 500gb drive on sale. My problem is I don't know much about the different drives. I see SATA, and PATA drives out there, but I don't know which is appropriate for my iMac.. I want this drive swap to be as simple as possible, so I want something that will plug in and hopefully run quiet and maybe have a larger cache, as well as more storage, than I presently have. I've heard good things about Seagate Drives, so I'm leaning that way somewhat.

Can anyone give advise on which specific drive specs to be looking for?

Below I have copied and pasted my present internal drive info that is shown in system Profiler. Hope this helps. I believe it is a Seagate Barracuda

You need to find any SATA drive.

You'll probably benefit most from a 7200RPM SATA drive.

Don't get a PATA... it won't work. Stick to SATA.

Generally Seagate is the best brand, I've used Western Digital and Maxtor as well for SATA drives and have good experiences with them.
