View Full Version : Please help!!!!: Moved from XP by Murray

Hi,
Been trying all week-end to setup a home network, but the client computer doesn't connect to the internet.When i look at the local are conection both computers shows that they are connected.Please help me with my problem.You might need more information, please let me know.I am very new in the computer world, so please bare with me.Thank you.

Ty for the link.Here is what i could find:
-What doesn't work: client computer doesnt connect to internet
-What does work: i can share files between the 2 computers, host computer connects to internet
-What u have tryed: havent tryed too much, because i dont know what.Ran the Network setup wizard maybe a dozen times and bought a different router.
-Network im using is cable.
-I do have a router, Linksys fast ethernet 5-Port hub(the new one) ,was using Acnet.
-Trying to setup a network consisting in 2 desktops
-Using ICS??Where do i look for that? :dizzy:
-Using Windows Xp home edition on both computers.

Used the command promt thingy and i found this:
Host computer:
-Node TYpe:hybrid
-Ip routing enabled:No
-

Ops posted the thread and wasnt finished!!
Host computer -Ip address: 24.121.92.81
-default gateway: 24.121.92.1
-i can ping the default gateway
Client computer -ipaddress: 169.254.47.27
-default gateway: nothing

Just noticed something new. When i look at "Local area conection", there's an exclamtion sign, limited or no connection?!:confused: How do i fix this?Please help me!!

Well one this I did notice right off the bat was the ip address of the "host" computer. Its not really a host computer since you aren't running a peer to peer network but using a router instead. So from now on we will use the terms computer1 and computer2 for both of the computers if thats ok with you. Now the question is are both computers connect to the router with cat5 cable? The layout of the network should be:

cable/dsl modem-->router--->computer1 and computer2

Now you would need to log into the router and make sure its setup for your connection type ie "cable or dsl". It would help to know if it is cable or dsl and setup differs between the two.

I'm using a modem ,so the layout network is: dsl modem--->router--->computer 1 and computer2. I am using the cable that came with the ethernet card, is that ok? Please, tell me step by step how to log into the router.Thank you.
