Hi!
I haven't been here for some time but last time I was here someone graciously helped me fix my computer problem. I find myself here once again with a problem I cannot resolve by reading the MSN Help site. Admittedly, I am computer brainless:confused: and I would really appreciate help.
When I turn on the computer and try to bring up Windows I get the following message:
Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module OLE32.DLL at 0167:7ff53d78
Registers (here there are several lines of numbers. Under these lines is written: Stack Dump followed by another row of numbers.
When this message box comes up the computer will not finish opening Windows. I am lost. Can someone please help me???
Thanks!

try this. Boot into Windows normal (or as normal as it can be), go to 'Start>Run', type SFC /SCANNOW and press OK. Windows will check it's system files to make sure they are correct and haven't been overwritten by another program.

I work for Best Buy in computer sales and ive had a few people come up to me with a similar problem. Im not sure if its the exact same problem but I think that opening up your case, and blowing in it, to get rid of any dust should get rid of the problem, I have found that blowing the dust out usualy solves some problems. PM me if you have any other problems! thanks!

1. Although good advice sfc /scannow is for XP not Windows 98. You posted in Windows 98 so assume that is the system your running????
2. The OLE32 error can be caused by many things of which;
A recently installed program overwrites the ole32.dll file with an older version.
3. You indicated a stack dump after the error, are you running XP?
If running "98" and have the "98" CD do this:
Use the Windows 98 Startup diskette to start your computer. When the computer has started up, select the Start Computer With CD-ROM Support option. (BIOS - SETUP) must be configured to boot from CDROM as the first boot device).
Insert the Windows 98 CD into the CD drive. When you see the MS-DOS command prompt, type c:\ and press the ENTER key.
Type cd\windows\system and press the ENTER again.
Now rename the corrupted file by typing rename ole32.dll ole32.old and press ENTER.
Type ext and press ENTER to start the extraction process.
When asked to enter the path to the Windows CAB files, type d:\win98 (if d:\ is not the drive letter name for your CD drive, enter the appropriate letter) and press ENTER
Note that, if Win98 was installed by your PC’s manufacturer, your Windows installation files may be located in the C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS folder on the hard drive.
When asked to enter the name(s) of the files(s) you want to extract, type ole32.dll and press ENTER.
You will see a message that asks you to enter the path to extract to. Type c:\windows\system and press ENTER.
Type Y and press ENTER to finish the extraction process. Once the process is complete, you can restart your computer.
4. OH! BTW: blowing out the inside of your case will not fix this error, and if you go to Best Buy and they tell you it should, ask them what they are smoking. Dust, dirt balls, candy, cat hair inside a case causes over heating and overheating causes many error's, but however, it does not corrupt files.

Thanks so much for answering, Pip22, x-bone and Murf! I am running Windows 98.
Murf, yes, I recently installed an anti-virus program on my computer. I hope I can follow your directions; I am hopelessly brainless when it comes to computers. I'm going to give it a try now. Will let you know if I'm successful.
Thanks again,

Hi Murf, I tried to follow your instructions but could not select any CD-ROM support option. I put in the startup disk, turn on the computer and it promptly goes into Windows and the error message comes up. Then I cannot do anything with it. Also, I am not given any option to click on anything, a d even if I try to click while the computer is booting up, the clicker does not work. I'm sure it is operator problems in this instance but I am just lost. I sure would appreciate any additional help that can be offered.

(BIOS - SETUP) must be configured to boot from CDROM as the first boot device).
When the first screen comes up start hitting the Del key (or whatever key the screen tells you to use to enter SETUP, could be a F key). Once in setup, move around the menu items (screen tells you what keys to use) until you find where you can change the boot order (sequence), usually under the 2nd menu item, maybe called Advance. You need to set the boot order for the Floppy as the 1st boot device. Once changed, find where you can Save & Exit (usually the F10 key (screen tells you)), now with the floppy in boot and you should end up at the A:/Prompt.

We really admire it when sales people try to learn about the things they try sell.
until you do, don't spam with your sales talk.
edit; and when you did learn enough, it is better to still not spam.
