severe ping issues

I run a laptop on wireless with the router in the next room. I've had some troubles with pings and timeouts, but never this bad. Recently, during gaming on Counterstrike, when I try to load the server list, it would give 4-5 50-70 ping servers, then STOP, then a second later my ping would show to be from 1000-3000...this also happens when I'm ingame too, I would just freeze, and it happenes about every 2 minutes. Does anyone know how to fix this? I havn'et had the problem this bad ever before.

What else is connect to the router?
What type of wireless adapter are you using?
Do you see other wireless networks around you?

Any cordless phones or Bluetooth devices in use around you?

cmd /k ipconfig/all [use to start ipconfig from 'Run']
cmd /k ping <some website, like google or yahoo> [use to ping 'www.google.com' from 'Run']

the router is just connected to the modem, only my pc and my laptop uses the cable internet. It's a d-link router and I use my laptop's intel centrino thingy to connect with it. Yes I only see one other wireless network, but it's at low connectivity. And we have 2 cordless phones.

I also scanned my computer for viruses and spyware, only found cookies.

I also can't download any files basically over 50 mb even thoguuh my cable's really fast , because the downlaod will just freeze after about 5 minutes.

If you're seeing another network you may want to try adjusting the the wireless channel you're using. You want to change the channel in increments of 5 to avoid overlapping frequencies.

You have to log into the router and there should be a page to change the various wireless settings including the channel to use.
