On a small LAN I wouldn't expect any lag problems due to the network, but it can happen. What do you have for a hub? What else is on the network? Are all the machine up to playing the game? One slow machine can impact soem network games.
Also, check your cables. Maybe even swap out one at a time with a new one and see if it helps.

give us the specs of each machine
how long are the ethernet cables from computer to hub?

if its one comp that has trouble its my friends laptop. even at the lowest settings it runs choppy but the other two run at full settings no prob. idk spec for the laptop though i will get when i come back from my trip. our cords are 10-15 feet, we try two different hubs, one is a linksys wireless broadband, and idk wut the other is but i will also have that to you when i come back. btw when the two good comps try to play 1v1 its still pretty slow. the internet is on the network but no one is able to use it while we play. so i will get those sepcs on monday or tuesday. thnx

are you using a gigabit, 100Mbps or 10Mbps network
dont mix and match between those, cause the whole network would slow down the the slowest component
if everything has a gigabit connection and top of the line cables but you have a 10Mbps network card plugged into the network thent he whole network slows to 10Mbps

This is a hard one to figure remotely, but we can try a few things. Have you tried the linksys with the wireless disabled? Are you running the latest firmware on it? BTW - what model linksys?
Is you internet connection DSL or cable? What are the MTU set to on the various machines?
