Need help with AOL broadband and networking.
I've been trying to set up a router A d-link router Airplus Extreme G wireless router model DI-624 for my girlfriend that I gave her a few months ago. I've set up my own networks before though they were fairly simple and didn't have any real complications it pretty much set it up itself. I know a bit about networking but not a whole ton.
She currently has AOL broadband DSL, The modem is a Actiontec home dsl modem, the router is a d-link di-624 as i said before the network only includes one computer (mostly setting it up for some of the things that can use wi-fi in the house like her new nintendo wii, and her nintendo ds) which is actully the only reason I've been trying so hard to set this up. I've tried plenty of power cycling, setting it up with a wizard and manually, I've tried using different screen names from her aol account, I've made sure the MTU is set to 1400. I've called AOL only to get blown off the first time and told to call d-link. Once calling d-link I got run through a couple of things which were mostly power cycling resetting the router inputting the same information I already had down (username password for aol etc. PPPoE). So far no matter what I've done the router will not work It will get a connection to the computer so its not the ethernet cable. Its also not the modem's ethernet card because the modem does work if plugged directly into the computer. But when plugged into the networ the internet wont connect at all. The browsers wont work I can't sign on to aol even if i wanted to. When checking the status for the router all the WAN IP address, subnet mask and default gate way go under 0.0.0.0 Umm I think I've covered everything I'd really greatly appreciate some help I really can't get any anywhere in customer service for either AOL or D-link. Even if somebody could suggest where I might be going wrong if theres something I need to call aol and ask them for or anything like that. Thank you in advanced to anybody that can help in any way. And just incase somebody wants to say it I know AOL isn't a good ISP and it'd be alot easier to do this if she got rid of it and got another ISP but it isn't her choice so I can't change that. Again Thanks in advance. |

You probably need to put your modem into what is called 'bridge mode'. Basically your modem is handling the connection now, once it is bridged, it will allow your router to make the connection instead.

Could you tell me exactly how to do that or point me in some direction how to? I've looked around a bit and the information I've found hasn't told me much so far.
