eTrust EZ Antivirus won't uninstall

Someone else posted here about removing this piece of garbage program, unfortunately those steps have not solved my problem. My uninstall is failing at the "Removing eTrust EZ Antivirus from 'right-click' menus portion, then the error says:

ERROR: Unable to open registry key [SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{bla bla bla}\InprocServer32]> Context Menus

I've thrown everything I can think of at this, every solution I've searched for online, registry mechanic, ccleaner, etc. Nothing has solved this problem, and yes, I've tried re-installing and uninstalling, same problem.

If anyone has an idea I'd love to hear it.

If you would post the full error message we can remove that key manually (if it exists).

I've tried removing that key manually, both in normal and safe mode, and it keeps giving me permission denied.

Do you mean that you are getting two different error messages?

it keeps giving me permission denied.

Have you tried clicking on Edit > Permissions and giving yourself full control?

I'm getting two different locations (keys) for each account when UnVet32.exe is run. When I'm in safe mode, and logged in with the main account on the system, it errors out on one key, and when I log off (still in safe mode) and I login with the Administrator account, I get the other key location listed.

And, the keys in question are set to Everyone, full control. Just for the heck of it I tried going into the advanced permissions, and it says: "Registry Editor could not set owner on the key currently selected, or some of its subkeys." Hit OK, then it says "Unable to set owner on {bla bla bla}. The security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object.

And of course, if I try deleting the key in question: "Cannot delete, error while deleting key."

There may still be an eTrust EZ Antivirus service running that prevents deleting those keys. I can have a look if you like. Go here and download the latest version of Hijack This. When you have downloaded it, doubleclick to install. Once installed, open Hijack This and click on scan. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

Nope, I cant see any eTrust files or services running but I do see that Windows Defender is running. This program can cause problems with spyware removal so it may also be responsible for the problems you are having.

It might be worthwhile uninstalling Windows Defender, rebooting and reinstalling eTrust. Reboot again and shut down all running programs including your AV and try uninstalling it now.

If this works, you can reinstall Windows Defender if you like.

Fixed it. My solution probably isn't for the faint of heart (or the technically challenged) but it worked.

I grabbed BartPE: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/
and Registry Editor PE: http://regeditpe.sourceforge.net/

Burned a boot cd and basically did some offline registry hacking to remove the offending keys that couldn't be removed with windows own regedit. Rebooted, and after that EZ Armor/Antivirus was still stuck in add/remove programs, so I re-installed it, once again, then uninstalled it, this time, for the final time. Thanks for the help, this was a tough nut to crack, but hopefully it will help others if they run across the same issues.
