I have a 1.5MB/s internet connection, but why do my downloads only go at about 50-100KB/s?
Is there anything i can do to make them go faster other than getting a download accelerator?

a download accelerator will not really give you much noticeable speeds. As far as the speeds you are currently getting, you never get what you paid for and you are limited to the speed of the site you are getting your files from.
what type of internet connection do you have? what operating system?

Please test your connection here (http://www.speedtest.net/) and report back results please.

There are hundreds of variables involved which determine the speed you will get when transferring files from x website to your PC. The important thing to know is, just because your internet connection is theoretically capable of downloading up to 1.5Mbps, isn't a guarantee you will get that exact speed, 100% of the time, from any download source.
If you're downloading large files like game patches and such, these will likely be mirrored on several sites, so you should choose one which provides the best possible download speed, and probably one based in your country. If your ISP offers downloads, always use them. If the downloads you want are offered on BitTorrent, use a BT client so you can download from multiple sources (but only if they're legal).
