Question Linksys Slowdown

Hello World!
Alright, so I finally hooked up my server and got it running, (Thanx 2 |337 and Coleman for that one!) the only prob is, I have it and my modem running through my Lynksys, which I otherwize never use due to this very issue.

Whenever I use Lynksys, I get a serious connection issue. Any webpage takes about 5 times longer to load, which, with some patience, I can deal with. My big problem is my WinMX won't connect for more than 30-90 seconds at a time, and when it is connected, I cannot download from anyone or find a chatroom, no less chat in one. Below is the msg I get in the window pane;

WinMX v3.5 beta 4 - 1UL @ 0 B/s <Online P=8 S=0 spm=13989>

I dont know if that helps at all,... Anyway, no online games will connect, or at least stay connected, nor will a simple IM program like AIM, although, Trillian seams to do fine, so that doesnt matter to me.

Is there a way to pump some speed into this thing? Im on Optimum Online, so my connection should be FAST.

Thanx,
Reyak

When the computer isn't connected to a router but directly to the modem does it still have a slow connection? What OS does the computer run? What type of internet connection is it cable or dsl?

If I connect the modem strait to the computer it's far faster than it is now. Im using Optimum online, Cable,....it's supposed to be about 6x faster than DSL. that's the advertisement anyway, I have no basis of comparison. I'm using a WinXP.

Okay the first thing you will want to do is log into the router and have a look at the setup area. You want to make sure the router is set up for your connection type. For cable you would really want an MTU setting of 1500. Once you are sure its set up for cable and the MTU is set at 1500 then you will want to do some port forwarding. Make sure and forward the ports that WinMX uses and for any online games you use. If you need help doing the port forwards in the router post the modle router you have and we can help you out.

Ok, here, I think is a hint to the issue. In the status area listed;

WinMX v3.5 beta 4 - 1UL @ 0 B/s <Online P=8 S=0 spm=13989>

P=# changes between 0-8, eight I believe is 8 peers, or connections, while 0 seems to take me offline completly. I set the MTU (which was disabled) to 1500 and have the same issue. I also reset the application ports with no change. I know I have the latest MX patch, so that's not it either, and again, this is only an issue running through Linksys.

ok I just tried the ping test for max MTU,.. I can only get lower than %100 loss with a single number (1463), but It only works with one of four packets sent. (IE, %75). I cannot get 0% loss. one lower gets timed out, and one higher gets %100 loss. here is the test I took:

Uh.. which linksys router are you using? you probably need to set up port forwarding to get your applications to work right.
