No DSL after Windows auto update

Hi all. I just had a friend call and ask about a problem with his computer. He has DSL, a router and 2 wired, and one wireless connection for his home computers. He said one of his wired computers cannot connect to the internet after a windows auto update. I asked if his firewall was disabled and he said yes. Off hand and without going to his house, I'm at a loss for what to look at.

Does anyone know off hand if there is a common thing that good old windows update does to you broadband connections to disable them?

thanks,
