Hey there, I just discovered an annoying little problem that I think is caused by my browser. It seems that when I click on a link on a page the computer doesnt open the window, but just flashes and then stays at the same site that I clicked the link on, Is this a setting problem? Someone please help!!

Hi roguelion - welcome to CTH. Could you please tell us what OS you have and what version of IE you are using.

Sorry if I sound pedantic but I have a fix for Win98. When you say Win ME update package, is your OS WinME or 98 (Win95 and WinXP user here lol)

Hehehe, well ya confused me :D

We can try something else. Close IE and go to Start > Run, and run the following commands one after the other, each line followed by 'enter':

regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 comcat.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdoc401.dll

Run each line individually. After each run, you should see a short message stating the command was successful. Now reboot.

If this doesnt work, we might try the Win98 fix anyway :D

OK, first set a restore point in System Restore (I havent recommended this in WinME before) but if you are willing to be a test case, download mcrepair.exe from here (http://download.microsoft.com/download/msninvestor/Patch/1.0/WIN98/EN-US/mcrepair.EXE). Close IE, run mcrepair.exe and reboot afterwards.

(When you run this executable, it asks you whether you wish to overwrite newer files, make sure to click YES for each file.)

Let us know how you get on.

Darn, we may have overwritten more files than were necessary. Undo the Restore and try this:

Put your installation disk in your CD ROM drive and use msconfig to extract and replace oleaut32.dll.
