Did u ever think of using arabic name for the new babe? if u think it is okay, which two names(male & female) in the list-my signature- u will choose? why?
as for me(even i'm not married yet) :
Male-->Youssef, Yusef, Yusuf(pbuh) - To increase (in power and influence); a Prophet's name (Joseph)... why choosed?:easy to spell,a famous prophet name, comon & liked in our socity & not used much as many names..
Female--> Daliyah - Grape vine .. why choosed? ,,it is near in spelling to the name : Dalal(Treated or touched in a kind and loving way), 3 letters in it r same letters in my name(Aadel).."Adel, 'Adil - Just".. Daliyah also for its nice meaning..& little comon used in our Gulfic socities..( vine grapevine )
that's all. :)

Why do names have to have meanings... surely people don't choose names for their meanings.. they just like the sound of them?

Thanks Yusef for trying. My name is actually Ann Marie (it's not one word).
Ann:
From the Hebrew name חַנָּה (Channah) which meant "favour" or "grace". Hannah was the mother of Samuel the prophet in the Old Testament. The Latin version of this name is Anna.

Why do names have to have meanings... surely people don't choose names for their meanings.. they just like the sound of them?I thought the trick was to name your kid so it doesn't rhyme with an insult or bodily function?

I'd rather name my kid with something from the Koran, than name them after a food, fictional character or location (http://www.babynames.com/Names/Celebrities/celebrity_babies.php)...

I wholeheartedly agree, Mr Oracle, as I was only telling my beautiful children Storm, Mango-Peaches and Frodo, just the other morning. :p
I think the issue of naming children with names from different cultures shows a measure of tolerance and free thinking that I find admirable. To limit choices out of resentment for other cultures shows quite the opposite.

but sometimes you have to limit choices because of the resentment from others.

I named mine the names they've got (Jack and Elliott) because I like the names, nothing intended by it. I dont like many boys names really, theyre a bit boring IMHO. Just so happens they're maybe a bit 'traditional'? If Id had a girl she'd have been called Daisy or Perpetua or something equally naff :D. Hmmmmm I was banned from ever having a daughter after sharing my girl-name thoughts LOL

*EDIT* theres been a massive resurgence round here in the last 5 years or so for traditional welsh names. I like it, as it's keeping my culture alive.
