XP will look in C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\My Documents\My Pictures for wallpapers pictures. It will also look in C:\Windows occasionally.

Make sure the pictures you don't want in the list are deleted from both locations.

Open My Computer. Open the C drive. Open Documents and Settings. Open your user account. Open the My Documents folder. Open the My Pictures folder. Find and delete the pictures you want to remove from the desktop background list.

Then go back to the C drive window. Find and open the Windows folder. Find and delete any pictures there that you want removed from the desktop background list (there may not be any but check anyway). Do not delete anything else in the Windows folder.
