Another ME question. Another user, not on a network, has her system lock when no programs are running. She gets a Disk Write Error; Unable to write to disk in Drive C: data or files maybe lost -- press any key to continue. Her system hangs and she needs to reboot. This is starting to increase in frequency. I recently did a reinstall with the restore disks after a failed attemt to upgrade to Win 2000

That error indicates that the hard drive is getting ready to fail. I would highly recommend looking into getting the drive RMA'd or, if it's past warranty, install a new drive ASAP.

There is no telling how much longer the drive will last but chances are, not very long. I would first get everything saved off the drive that is important data. You won't be able to save the actual programs themselves, but any data, like e-mail, favorites, and any documents that have been created should be saved to another form of media first.

After that, get a replacement drive as soon as you can.

Hope this helps.

This is prib a software prob. But heat can also caus it, and should be checked out , you can pull the cover and run it that way for a while, see if it helps , and if you have one you could temp. hang a case fan where it is blowing on hdd,
