I was recently baffled by this. Had two machines within days of each other refuse to go to the Internet. Running an IP network and that worked fine. Looked into it: could ping anything by IP address and nothing outside our network by name. Came back "Bad IP address for " every time we tried to go to yahoo.com or microsoft.com or whatever. Get the ip and you could ping it or browse to it. Tried making the IPs static, tried different DNS servers, made sure win.com was only in \windows, reloaded the NIC driver, the TCP/IP stack... everything. Finally I reloaded the OS and it worked fine. That, however, is not my preferred solution. Any ideas?
