OK I’M ATTEMPTING TO USE MY MASTER CD TO EXTRACT THE WINDOWS 95 DLL FILE KERNEL32....WHEN I REBOOT MY COMPUTER USING MY MASTER CD AND DISKETTE....I RECEIVE A PROMPT TELLING ME THAT DOS IS “UNABLE TO DETERMINE CD-ROM MODEL”AND A (A: PROMPT).....WHEN I TRY TO TYPE THE MODEL IN I GET AN “ INVALID DRIVE SPECIFICATION” MESSAGE....SO MY QUESTION IS WHAT SYNTAX DO I USE WHEN TYPING THE MODEL IN....I HAVE A SAMSUNG SC140B DRIVE....AND ALSO I KNOW HOW TO EXTRACT A FILE FROM THE CD BUT DO I EXTRACT THE KERNEL32DLL. TO C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM?

Hi there,
Since no one else has the info you are looking for, I'll give it a try.
It's not real clear how you are doing things. So, I'll ask and answer this way:

In windows or from the DOS prompt?

If you have lines added to the autoexec.bat for CD drivers, they may not be working. Place a "rem" in front of any line that has to do with the CD drive in the autoexec.bat, that will disable that command. This may have to do with the A prompt, or the setting in CMOS may be incorrect.

Comment: Windows 95 and 98 do not need the autoexec.bat or config.sys to run...until a program you have installed creates it and uses it.
P.S. Writting in all capital letters is the same thing a yelling. Please type in lower case, with proper upper case letters for nouns and so forth. Use all caps when you want to yell at someone. :)
